As we have sold Monty we decided to move on to Aussie land. After some internal and external discussions whether to fly to Syndey or to Melbourne we decided to fly to Melbourne. Food and culture won against beaches.
15th - 18th March Melbourne
I booked by coincidence a very nice (a little too expensive Air bnb) in St. Kilda. Why by coincidence? Well, I mixed up some buttons (check availibity and make a booking). So, what did we do in Melbourne?
We spend a few ours browsing through the suburb of St Kilda (what a cool suburb - mix between hipsters and loosers in a way haha).
did a hop on hop off tour through Melbourne when the weather was crap.
had drinks and food with some Dutchies (my ex-collegue Johan).
had a great BBQ with our Irish friends Marc and Betty (Yvette ;)) and their dog Fin. That was a great night with loads of laughter and stories.
had our first kangoroe steak ...we ate them before we saw them (kind of odd).
We spent some hours at the beach and from 4 pm on we had some drinks at our 'local' pub (Big mouth) there.
Yes, ....we did leave exactly one week before the F1 Grand Prix ...
18th - 23rd March Perth
The next couple of days we were lucky that we got invited to stay at our dear friends Nicola, Ryan & Snoooooooooooopy. We LUV them :). They have a very cool place in the North of Perth (Clarkson/Joondalup) including a swimming pool!
They took us on some nice walks at the dog beach.
We went to watch Ryan playing football ... and he scored!! Did not see it but heard of it haha. After the footbal we had some drinks @Wale+Ale and a nice dinner prepared by Nicola.
On the 20th (my dad's birthday!!! Happy birthday Dad) we went by ferry to Rottnest Island where we rented out bikes. The next 3,5 hours we spent cruising around and exploring the island. What a beautiful place. We fell in love with the little Quokkas.
They have this great prison that only had been closed in 1991 in Framentle which we visited the next day. Back in the days Perth struggled to get settlers to immigrate to OZ so they forced criminals to come to Perth to first build their own prison and then help building up Perth. The tour we did there was very impressive. Amazing how they kept, punished and killed people there :S.
Nicola took us to this huge golf court to.............................. not to play golf but to spot kangaroos! First we did not see them and then there they were. So cute.
We had loads of fun with those two gorgeous people. They just spoiled us with great food and drinks (that one night out was just great).
Have I ever mentioned that we want to start up a farm when we get back? With chickens, sheep, cows, seals, kangaroos, quokkas and not to forget a wale. LOL.
Check out that sign! Long trousers need to go straight ahead! (Crazy Ozzies)
After 4 great days we had to say good bye to our friends (it really felt like staying at family) to leave to Singapore. The gate to Asia. I do not why but I got very nervous leaving the Western world to travel to Asia ...
We are currently in Singapore and will fly to Indonesia today. I will update the blog the coming days with more highlights about this cool city and the missing pictures from OZ...
