Campings + Corona Rating
We heard from friends that Portugal is easier to travel around so we left Spain after only a few days to go to Portugal. There was no check by the border what so ever but a few days later they eventually closed the border to Spain. Portugal went into a hard lockdown and we just got there. Even though I freaked out a bit in the beginning, I quicky just accepted the fact of us being in Portugal at least for a month anyway. What else could we do than just enjoy ourselves, being in a beautiful country? And we had a destination. We planned on visiting friends of us in the North of Portugal so that is where we would head to. But now, we just had arrived.
The first days, we spent at a wonderful campsite in the green hills of the Algarve. We spend some days hiking around the village Sao Marcos De Serra and in the hills. As long as you are in nature you do not feel the lockdown. But as soon as you walk through a village you do. No one! No one on the streets or just 1-2 people walking their dogs. That is it. Walking through Sao Marcos felt like walking through a village where a bomb just fel down or something like. Just unreal. Staying outside of villages and in nature just felt better so we did.
Camping: Quinta De Odelouca
Corona Rating: Clean, great showers, huge spaces and great wifi.
Price: Expensive (€18,50)

As we still were heading towards our friends, we still wanted to see the coast though. So we did a few overnight stops on our road towards Foz do Arelho.
Porto Covo.
That certainly is a cute little village in the summer and without Corona (now obviously no one was on the streets) but it certainly has a great coast line.
Camping: Camping Porto Covo
Corona Rating: Ok for a night, all facilities there, bad wifi.
Price: Middle (€12,50)

Lake Melides and Praia da Galé
Even though we just stayed there for just one night we just loved the beach and the cliffs there. And as we were almost the only ones there we had the beach, the cliffs and the wooden terraces just for ourselves. I do not how busy it gets there in high season (I bet it gets pretty busy looking at that huge camping) but we had a great day there.
Camping: Camping Galé
Corona Rating: Great beach and views, older facilities, no wifi on the sites
Price: Middle (€12,50)

Ericeira
The last stop we did was in Ericeira which is normally a booming surf city. When we were there the beaches were closed.
Camping: Ericeira Camping
Corona Rating: Well maintained campsite, good security, clean, no wifi on sites
Price: Cheap (€ 7,50)

Time with friends
Foz do Arelho
After a few days roadtripping we arrived at our friends place in Foz do Arelho. We met Monica and Jefferson 4 years ago on our last roadtrip through the US. We developed a very special friendship and were very happy to be able to spend time with them. Foz do Alreho is a very nice town by the beach that is the perfect starting point to go sightseeing which we did for example to Óbidos.
Óbidos
A must see when you are at this part of Portugal. It is a small medieval city and one of the most picturesque and best preserved fortified towns in Portugal.
As the weather is pretty crap (and crap is an understatement) we decided to let the camper be camper and escape for a few days to Maderia to see some sun and do some hikes.
