Fort Leavenworth

As Spencer decided to go on the roadtrip with us I want to sum up Fort Leavenworth separately. We visited my best childhood friend Jasmin for the Labour day weekend. Fort Leavenworth is a US Army installation in the north of Leavenworth. You have to sign in before visiting the Fort as it is guarded 24 hours and you cannot just enter there without them knowing you are coming.

Dominik, Jasmin and the children picked us up at the entrance. It was great to see them! I saw them the last time end of 2016 and did not expect them to see back so soon as we did not plan to come to the US at all. On our first night they took us to the Kansas Speedway where a BBQ championship took place. It was a big happening but a little chaotic for us. We bought a BBQ pass and tested 8 different BBQ dishes. We expected the championship to be a little different but we still had a great time and Jasmin and me spent the rest of the night catching up.

The next day we went shopping and "sightseeing" at the Cabeles, a huge outdoor shop. It felt a bit like walking through a zoo of stuffed animals.

In the evening we visited that cute little winery where we did a wine tasting and had some cheese and sausages.

On Sunday I went to church with the family and Rick watched soccer (Feyenoord).

It was great to see Jasmin back. We spent our whole gymnasium school time together and grew up together before we graduated in 2000. We have not been seeing each other that much the last 16 (!) years but in the last year I already saw her twice although travelling on different continents! Stupid of me that I did not see her that much when we were living just a couple of hundred kilometers away. It is not a huge hassle to stop in my car and visit my friends I grew up with (we now drove thousands of miles just to see her). I need to change that when I am done travelling. Take more effort to see my friends!

Jasmin, love you and god bless you and your family.

We are Constanze and Rick Daamen. A since 2011 married Dutch-German couple in their almost 40ies. After a few ups and downs in our lives, we decided in 2016 to take a year off and travel the world. End of 2017 we came back to the Netherlands. Since then we have been trying to find our way back to work and live in Rotterdam. Now, we will change everything again to our new plan B.
